Marconi go down fighting in this years Elite Snooker league Major Semi Finals, going down 7-6...

Semi-final No.2 Smithfield RSL v Marconi No1at Smithfield.
The drama started before a shot was played when Chris Todd failed to read the draw properly and didn't show up,he was replaced by Jeff Farugia.TerryEmmett started Smithfield off to a 2-0 lead beating Ron Tulloch who couldn't get his long potting going and Terry picked up the scraps, on the other table Roger Fairbrother was making life difficult for Nick Vasic with a solid display of good potting and some masterful safety shots, Nick just couldn't get the better of the safety duels and Roger prevailed to win 2-0
Score 2 all
The lights in the snooker room were turned down as the tension began to build. Jeff Farugia was all over Wayne Brown in the 1st frame 22 in front and needing only a roll in brown to seal the frame, Jeff slightly over hit it and Wayne took full advantage with some good safety causing Jeff to foul ,Wayne cleaned up to win on the black. The 2nd frame went very similar, with Wayne missing a difficult pink while on a clearance and Jeff potted a length of the table pink and with great follow through got the white up the other end and rolled the black in which was near the rail behind the brown spot.
Score 3 all
Vic Sacco and Stefan Zielonko played a marathon 2 frames with a lot of safety causing the balls to get tied up (and tired), therefore making it hard to score. After both players had plenty of chances to take the upper hand it was probably a fitting result that it went 1 all.
Score 4 all
Ray Thompson had his safety working early and we knew this was also going to be a marathon against Travis Crawley so we watched the other match between Serki Iverchev and Alan Mccarthy. Serki taking advantage of his 10 start, knocking in a couple of 30 breaks, and although Alan potted some nice shots to claw his way back into the frame Serki held on to win comfortably, the 2nd frame started at the same breakneck speed as the 1st and with Serki potting some fantastic shots and showing no signs of breaking under pressure he cruised to a 2 nil victory.
Score 6-4 Marconi
The 1st frame was still underway after Serki and Alan had finished. Ray needing to win 2 nil to make a draw all looked lost for Smithfield with Travis easily making up his 10 point handicap and 30 in front with 2 reds left ,Travis miscalculated a simple safety shot to bring both reds out and present Ray with 2 easy pinks which he made without too much fuss, then after a long bout of safety and a few fouls from both players,Ray was 4 in front when Travis potted a good blue, but because the white was close to the rail he couldn't get ideal position on the pink and had to play a long stun/screw shot into the yellow pocket. After potting it he walked around to shake Ray's hand, Ray politely told him he still needed the black, but with the pressure built right up he couldn't make the difficult 1/4 ball cut on the black and Ray made no mistake. Ray then won the toss for the double black and after a couple of safety shots potted a length of the table black.
Score 6-5 Marconi
Travis started the 2nd frame on fire and was running around the table slamming balls in, but hit a black too hard letting Ray back into the frame. Ray was potting good steady shots showing no signs of pressure, unlike Travis who was showing signs of strain after missing that black. Then with Ray 3 points in front, and missing a safety shot on the blue, Travis had a chance of getting in front, but again over hit the blue and went in off. Ray then potted blue and pink to give Smithfield the draw.
Score 6 all-draw.
Number 3 match was drawn out of the hat and both captains looked despondent because neither player, Wayne or Jeff, had a convincing win in their round match(1-1). However, Jeff got in first by potting a good black then missed and Wayne failed to captilize and Jeff came back to make a reasonable break to get himself 30+ in front. He held on til the last red when Wayne needed a snooker. Jeff never gave Wayne the chance to obtain the snookers he required and went on to win the deciding frame convincingly for SMITHFIELD.
