Sydney Snooker legend, Shaun Budd, won his 3rd major event for 2009 yesterday by securing victory in the 13th consecutive ‘Bob Hawke AC’ Australian Open Snooker Championship to be held at Mount Pritchard.

This ultimate and largest prize money Snooker event for 2009 caps a very successful year for Shaun having won the Fred Osbourne Classic in July at Albury’s Commercial Club and the 2009 South Pacific Open at Club Marconi in September.

Steve Mifsud, 4 times Australian Open Champion – 1997, 2000, 2001 & 2006, achieved a world standard high break for the event of 143.

Losing semi-finalists were last year’s defending champion, New Zealand’s Dene O’Kane and 2007 champion, NSW’s Glen Wilkinson.

96 players participated in the “Open” and “Open Women’s” over the past two weekends including players from Japan, India, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Mounties has been the home of the Australian Open Snooker Championships for the past 13 years and their support is most appreciated by all involved in the sport. The club facilities are first class and Mounties staff, as always, were most helpful, courteous and friendly. We recommend Mounties to anyone looking for first class Billiards & Snooker facilities.

Regards,

Ron Baikie
Secretary/Treasurer
Billiards & Snooker Association of NSW
